    Why does Ian McEwan take on such a digressive approach when writing Atonement? Why doesn’t he get straight to the point?

    Our minds naturally wander (naturally digressive) and McEwan uses a writing style called psychological realism, which is a style that depicts realistically how we actually think - our conscience.
